From:
Bill Lemon at Bill Lemon Photography and Erik Scheller his joint venture partner in F&G Productions.
Hello,
To shoot ordinary photographs is as simple as pushing a button on a camera.
However, to produce extraordinary images, skill and artistry and maybe some luck
are needed. “Practice makes perfect!” is a great motto if you have a guide
or mentor evaluating your practices. Good mentors are not easy to find so most
people have to find their mentors in a book, an online venue, or some other
media source. We all grew up learning from teachers but we all also had books or
manuals to assist along the way. Finding a good or appropriate manual or book
can be just as difficult as finding a good teacher.
I have been Bill’s friend for many years. Bill tends to be too modest for his
own good so I am taking the liberty to introduce you to him and to provide his
credentials. Knowing Bill he’ll probably want me to reduce some of the “glorifying”
of his skills so keep that in mind while you read more about him.
Bill started his photography career in 1980 as part hobby and business while
still working for Chevron. In 1989 he retired from Chevron and opened his first
photography studio. He moved his studio in 1996 to a new location but after
realizing that he really wanted to shoot models outside using natural light, he
closed the studio in 2003.
After closing his studio, Bill started to concentrate on writing photography
books and teaching glamour photography workshops all over the country. He
conducts at least four workshops a year in the USA. His workshops sell out even
at costs that I cannot afford. He shoots models constantly, which is great for
me because our friendship has allowed me to meet many of the models. He has
authored three how-to-books titled “BLACK & WHITE MODEL PHOTOGRAPHY”,
“NUDE AND BEAUTY PHOTOGRAPHY”, and “NUDE AND GLAMOUR PHOTOGRAPHY”.
The first book
had four print editions before the publisher stopped printing the book. The last
book contained images that were all shot digitally so the book contained more
information pertaining to digital photography. Bill’s forth book “OUTDOOR
GLAMOUR PHOTOGRAPHY” is due to be published in 2008. He also has produced a
DVD on behind the scenes of glamour photography. Just these accomplishments
should provide more than enough satisfying credentials to consider Bill a good
mentor from whom you can learn.
But let us look at other accomplishments just to convince you some more…that’s
is if his images on this page don’t already convince you. Over the years he
has shot 15 magazine covers for various publishers and has had numerous articles
written about himself in magazines such as, In Style, The Rob Report, Redbook,
Brides, Shape, Men’s Fitness, Shutterbug, Studio Photography, The Commercial
Image, American Photo, etc. Last time I flew the friendly skies I also got
excited seeing one of his images used in an advertisement in the Skymall
magazine. He also often submits images to web sites such as OneModelPlace.com or
ModelMayhem.com and his images are often “showcased” by those web sites.
This electronic book (ebook) is yet another way to help others improve the
glamour photography skills. You can download the ebook right now by signing in
at the end of this message. In a few minutes you could be reading the ebook on
your computer. The free lessons should give you plenty opportunity to see the
value of the ebook. The free lessons selected provide a clear picture of what to
expect in the remaining 51 lessons.
In the ebook, other than viewing amazing images, you will learn:
Where to find great settings for your images and what to keep track of when you are taking the images in the particular setting.
How to effectively utilize daylight during any time of day.
How to set up lighting (many lessons provide lighting diagrams).
How to compose your image.
How to pose your models.
How to crop your images for even better images.
About camera accessories and equipment.
How to work with different camera
angles.
How to adjust the depth of field for the perfect image.
The images in the
ebook took years to produce and the text for each lesson took considerable
effort and dedication. Providing a good value is however more important so the
price of the ebook is only $19.97. Bill’s other books and products sell at
higher prices and his workshop fees in 2007 have been at $1,340 per
person.
You’ll be surprised to find how accessible Bill is to his students, whether
they are in his classes or read his books. He really does want to teach and help
others improve their photography skills even if it means taking more time from
his already busy schedule. After reading and/or purchasing the ebook, please let
